At Christ the King Lutheran Church, our outreach ministries reflect our mission to share Christ’s love through tangible acts of compassion and service. From supporting foster children and providing meals to those experiencing homelessness, to global education efforts and hands-on community cleanups, our members are living out their faith with open hearts and helping hands. Everyone is invited to make a difference—locally and globally—by joining in the work of hope, healing, and justice.
Love in Action (LIA) is an outreach ministry of Christ the King that was formed in January of 1989 to benefit the abused and abandoned children of Dade County. The purpose and mission is “to make a difference in the life of a child” by reaching out to the needs of foster children and parents with emotional support and material assistance. Through interaction with the children, LIA volunteers try to show them that they are not alone and that there are loving and safe people who care. Love in Action provides emotional support and material assistance for more than twenty foster or adoptive families in South Dade County.
CTK recently celebrated "God's Work. Our Hands." GWOH Sunday is an annual denomination-wide call for service in the community. This past GWOH Sunday, almost 80 volunteers helped pick up trash at Matheson Hammock, entertained residents at harmony house, provided landscaping services for Paragon Partnership and Open House Ministries, supported an animal shelter, wrote cards for veterans, and assembled care bags for people experiencing homelessness.
Our small, but mighty CTK group removed 47 pounds of trash
from the park. Despite the bad weather prediction, we had perfect weather
(sunny & cool with no rain). Thanks be to God!
Once a month CTK collects non-perishable food items and other needed supplies for Curley's House in Liberty City. Curley's House was established in 2001 by committed Christians to feed and clothe people in need in Miami-Dade county. More than 750,000 people in Liberty City, Allapatah, Brownsville, Little Haiti and other communities have been helped by this important ministry. CTK has provided hundreds of pounds of rice, pasta, sauce, cereal, thousands of cans of tuna and vegetables, and much much more to fill their shelves.
Christ the King has a longstanding tradition of serving meals to residents at Chapman Partnership Homeless Assistance Center in Homestead. Chapman Partnership in Homestead and the companion center in downtown Miami serve approximately 5,000 men, women and children each year, providing housing, meals, health care, job training and assistance, and more. One group of volunteers from Christ the King serves dinner on the fourth Sunday of each month. Another group serves on the four, “fifth Fridays” of the year. Volunteers have the opportunity to assist with meal preparation, serve on the food line, and clean tables. All have the chance to interact with the residents.
Robert's Bikes is a community outreach program hosted by Christ the King Lutheran Church. All congregation members are welcome to donate new or used bicycles which are then given to children of the Perrine community as gifts. The program is done in collaboration with Miami-Dade police station 4 as an effort to encourage positive relationships between the community and the police.
